Work Sucks
I haven't been posting at all. I haven't really been dieting at all either. Nor have I been running. I pretty much fell off after school started. I'm in class from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and I work from 5 p.m. to 12 a.m.. I have to wake up at 5:30 a.m. to drive my girlfriend to work and drop off her daughter at her grand parents so her grand-pa can take her to school at 8. I then drive back home and arrive at about 7:30. I have to leave by 8 to drive the 14 miles of traffic that takes an hour. I have no time for anything. I still weigh 174 pounds.

fat, fat, fatty
I'm out of control. I ate onion rings, 3 servings of chips and 2 servings of Ballast Point wheat ale. I love beer, but I need to find a better diet off a low income.

Still...
Still running and eating Top Ramen for every meal. I did get a slice of Greek-style pizza yesterday at the trolley station downtown. I'm down to 176 pounds. That's all pretty much. My mile time is down to around 7 minutes, too.

Day 7
Day 7 was a failure. I started the Monday morning out with large onion rings from the BK lounge after getting off work and jogging 2 miles. I went to sleep and woke up at about 1 p.m.; picked up my Alice (my girlfriend) from work, dropped her off at home; went to get a veggie burrito without rice, cheese, guac or sour cream; went to work, ate a small bag of 240 cal chips, 5 slices of cheese, English muffin and a cookie (no egg). I think I had about 3000 calories. To top it off, I didn't do my stretches or anything. I just went strait to sleep. I do, however, weigh 177.

Day 4
After work, I weighed in, fully clothed (shoes and all), at 181. That's probably going to be 2.5 less for shoes, 1 for jeans; .5 for shirt, socks and undies. I don't know if I want to run tonight. It's already 1 a.m.. I don't like that idea too much.
I did eat 2 packages of ramen today; 1 banana, baked lays, regular lays, 1 cup of grapes. That would probably be around 1600 calories for today, 40 g fat... why do I love potato products so much? I think french fries have to be the best food ever.

Day 3
I'm no longer unemployed. I got my job offered back yesterday after a month of nothing, but I'm not planning on stopping my weight loss goals. The only thing that sucks is that I don't get off work until 12 a.m.. I think I would like to weigh in at 150 so I can fit all my jeans, even the 30" waist ones.
Today was not really any different. I had my poor mans ramen, a veggie delight without cheese, 110 calorie baked lays*(2), about 340 calories from fritos (even though I hate them), 100 from chocolate.
I figure I had about 1479 calories because I also had some chips at work. I doubt I had more that 300 calories worth of them. Also, I jogged 2 miles over 20 minutes. no puking this time. Last night I did 1 mile in 8.37 minutes. That's not too bad, but I was running a sub 5 minute mile my senior year of high school.

Day 2
This morning I weighed in at 180. That's 6 pounds in one day, so I think I lost about 5.5 in water. I did start the morning out with breakfast at Denny's along Alice and Serenity. I ordered the Boca burger without cheese and opted for fruit instead of french fries (very hard for me to do) and passed the bun to Alice. I would say that had about 110 for the patty and 120 for the fruit. I'm probably overestimating that, but better to be safe.
Wile dining, I also had the pleasure of listening to two of the most misinformed gentlemen I have ever heard in my life. They were mostly talking about weight loss and exercise, but I was able to listen (they were not exactly quiet) to their odd political beliefs on food stamps and immigration, and how the one thought the movie "The Matrix" is one of the greatest philosophical movies of our time. Seriously, they were very misinformed. Quotes such as, "Fat is evenly spread over your body; you're not going to to have abs showing and have fat somewhere else." Truth is that men will generally gain weight around their abdomen while women gain in their hips and butt.
Another was same guy saying, "If you have high cholesterol, it's not because of what you're eating. It's because your body's producing it that high," he says as he spreads butter on his scrambled eggs. "I only eat at In-N'-Out maybe 2 times a week, without the spread. Only mustard and ketchup. And my cholesterol is still over 200," he dips his bacon in the ketchup. "I'll eat maybe 2 of them 'cause they're tiny things, but so good."
Your liver secretes cholesterol, but his burger still has 27 grams of fat and 60 milligrams of cholesterol. Multiply that by 2, 2 times a week. That'll get the LDL up their if eaten in conjunction of a Grand Slam breakfast.
The other guy then started saying how he knows a guy with high cholesterol, but has a sister with low cholesterol and he didn't think that was possible since they were brother and sister.
Women are protected by estrogen. This female hormone raises HDL (good cholesterol) and reduces chances of heart attacks. After menopause, however, estrogen levels lower and they become more susceptible to higher LDL (bad cholesterol) and greater risk of hear attacks. Then their was time spent talking about how their fat daughters needed to go on the horrible Atkin's diet; how newspaper journalists only report what advertising PR reps tell them to, and how they stopped reading because the radio and broadcast media got it to them faster and was more focused (I don't think my cousin's wife to be/newspaper journalist would feel the same); and on how we are so lazy by making robots to take care of us (forgive the MIT, Stanford, CIT and other engineering students for trying to make a robot that will give our fat asses an other chance at life by making heart surgeries safer and more effective) that we are just leading ourselves to doom once the machines rise up and breed us only for energy until Keanu Reeves saves us. Everybody thank Mr. Reeves.
I'm not going to claim to be an authority on diet studies or health, but I think this is some basic knowledge that people should take the time to understand. Until last year, the U.S. was leading the world in obesity at 25% of the population being considered obese and was recently knocked down by Australia at 26%. Just goes to show you that this is becoming a global concern as our jobs and cost of living leaves us with choosing low-priced fast food without thinking about what's going into our body. This is probably why I like the "Slow Food Nation" movement that Stone Brewing Co. is promoting at their World Bistro. Organic foods that take a little time and effort to prepare. I love beer (in moderation).
The rest of the day was a 310 calorie Subway veggie delight, 110 calorie baked lay's and more poor man's Ramen at 390, 3 servings of corn nuts.
Calories: 1460
Fat: 46
Carbohydrates: Probably under 333 grams. Maybe even under 200.
I'm going running again. Last night I made it about a mile before I puked. It's been 3 months since the last time I ran.

Day 1
If anybody has been even glancing at my other blogs, they would know me, Jibby, as the beer-loving vegetarian, college senior who is currently the victim of the economic downturn layoffs. I also used to be in the military. Anyway, I usually watch my diet and count the calories, but it seems that ever since I moved to San Diego from Portland I have had trouble keeping an exercise routine.
Being unemployed and feeling pretty down in the dumps, I decided to get back into a healthy lifestyle and make the most of my situation. I'm medium-framed, 6-foot-3 inches tall and this morning I weighed in at 186 pounds. This still has my BMI at about 23.2 which is 1.8 under the 25 that the CDC considers overweight, but I really felt my best when I was 155 pounds and able to get in 20 pull-ups and as many sit-ups as I wanted. I know sit-ups and pull-ups aren't a great way to determine strength and health, but my 31 inch waist was able to fit in some pretty hip bell bottoms I had won on an E-bay auction (I kinda dig the retro-70's mid-western teen fashions of my parents generation) and I wasn't always worrying about "sucking it in."
After I got out of the military, I moved to Portland to start school with a friend that wanted to go back. Things were a little less stressful there. Rent was $800 instead of $1,600, school was 100 and 200 level instead of 300 and 400, a job was optional, and I could afford a membership to a gym that was conveniently located directly across the street from my Beaverton apartment that I shared with my friend.
Things started to change as I had been maintaining a long distance relationship with a girl I had met in San Diego. I decided to transfer to CSUSM from Portland and be with here. Things between us are pretty good. I do notice she is irritated that I've been without a job for a month, but school's starting back soon and more money from my financial aid should be coming in to east the tension. But all the comfort we have allowed me to pack on over 30 pounds! I had tried to keep a routine after I noticed the first 10, but was only met with failure. I decided tonight while on my first jog since may that I would keep my progress on a blog entry. This way the whole world can see and keep me motivated.
Meal 1] Top Ramen (I know) 390 calories, 14 g fat, infinite g sodium, 37 g carbohydrate
Diet Mt Dew (I said I know) 0 calories
Meal 2] Cheese Quesadilla {Rubio's} left-over from Serenity's(my girlfriend's daughter)kid's meal. Diet Pepsi: Less than 500 calories, less than 27 grams of fat, less than 44 g carbohydrate.
Meal 3] Curly Fries {Jack in the Box} (BACK OFF! I'M TRYING!) 420 calories, 24 g fat, 46 g carbohydrate.
Totals
Fat: <65 g
Carb: <127 g
Sodum: way over for the day in the first meal alone.
Calories: 1310
-The nutrition was taken from the corporate websites.
It looks like I need to get some variety in there. I will have to find a way to afford some B12 being that it's animal produced, but I can get the other B vitamins from the yeast byproducts in my homebrew! I do need to get some fiber as I haven't taken a dump in about 3 days. Variety would be key, but I have no money for good food here.
